Mr. Richard Rabs is an Insurance, Claims and Risk Management Executive specializing in Transportation risks. He leads a team of Safety and Training professionals as well as directs the insurance and risk management functions of the organization.
Before joining Sunrise, Rich managed the insurance, safety and risk management of the Archdiocese of Chicago. He is also the former Vice President of Insurance and Risk for Veolia North America (a multi-modal provider of public transportation services) and prior to that was associated with Roadway Express, a national trucking organization, as the Risk Services Manager.
With nearly 35 years of claims and risk management experience, Rich has held field and corporate management positions for an insurance company, a third-party administrator (TPA) and a national broker. As a member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), he is a past chair of the External Affairs Committee. He is also a current and founding trustee of RiskPAC (RIMS’ Political Action Committee).
Rich was the 2015 Richard W. Bland award recipient for contributions to RIMS in the area of regulation and legislative affairs. He has lobbied Congress and testified on behalf of RIMS before the Treasury Department.
He earned his BA in Journalism from Marquette University and holds the Associate in Claims (AIC) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations from the Insurance Institute of America.
Rich lives in Arlington Heights, IL with his wife Mary and has four adult daughters. He enjoys reading about World War II and spending time with his grandchildren.
